The Pioneer Experience in Weaverville, California

Farmers, ranchers and shopkeepers followed the miners to the gold fields around Weaverville. Miners had to eat, so produce flowed in from surrounding agricultural areas, such as the Lowden, Van Matre, Chapman and Steiner Ranches. In later years, these farms and orchards were dug up, as the search for gold continued, or covered by the waters of Trinity Lake. You can experience Weaverville’s agricultural history at the Young Family Ranch and the Jake Jackson Museum.

Wander past the homes, shops, saloons and hotels of the early settlers on the Walking Tour of Historic Weaverville. Visit the numerous art galleries housed in historic buildings, including the Highland Art Center (1893 Jackson house), the Trinity County Arts Council (1854 Rhodes & Whitney Bank) and Olsen Stoneware (1856 Buck & Cole Grocery). Join us as we celebrate our heritage, with the "firing of the anvil" on July 4th, the dutch oven cook-off and annual quilt show in October, or the Chinese Lion Dance each February.
