Walk Through History in Weaverville, California

Weaverville's scenic and compact setting, nestled beneath the Trinity Alps, will inspire you to explore our town and trails by foot.

Stroll shaded sidewalks on the "Walking Tour of Historic Weaverville". The Historic District showcases brick "fireproof" buildings built in the 1850s, unique spiral staircases, rammed earth buildings, saloons and hotels from the Gold Rush era and the Chinese Joss House. Adjacent neighborhoods on Court and Mill Streets will transport you back in time, with homes ranging from cottages to stately Victorians.

For a different perspective on history, try the Weaverville Cemetery Walking Tour. This historic cemetery, located on Oregon St., contains graves and markers dating from the 1850s. Its "residents" include gold miners, Trinity County pioneer families, war veterans and young men killed while fighting forest fires. Weaverville's shady lady, "Madame Marie" Legogneur, is memorialized by ECV Chapter 62.

Hikers will enjoy the Weaverville Basin Trail System, with trailheads that connect the town to adjacent wilderness and historic points. From the Weaver Bally trailhead, take a "Trail through Time" to explore the remnants of a Chinese mining camp, a mining flume, and the homesite of an African-American miner.
